Meine Wege zur Architektur
Georg Döring
The book has been published to mark the upcoming 30th anniversary of the Düsseldorf-based architectural practice. True to its title, however, it is not a conventional monograph, but offers a personal and multifaceted perspective. In this way, Döring aims to make the book accessible to non-specialists and to inspire them with a passion for architecture and the importance of good building culture. To this end, the book is divided into seven chapters that shed light on central themes of architectural practice and were designed by the Cologne-based Studio für Gestaltung. Whilst the introductory ‘Inspirations’ illustrate the line of thought, the subsequent ‘Sketches’, ‘Volumes’ and ‘Processes’ delve deeper into how Döring reflects on these in his practice and brings them to life. The numerous illustrations are complemented by an in-depth conversation with Ulrich Müller of Architektur Galerie Berlin. Written in a lively, reportage-style, the discussion ranges from insights gained from Georg Döring’s many years of practice to questions surrounding the practice of contemporary architecture and the role of the profession in our society.
